Florida teenager charged with strangling, burying mother

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said the boy killed his mom during a fight over a "D" he had received in school, but the boy, Chitwood said, expressed no remorse for the killing.

A 15-year-old aspiring homicide detective has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder after authorities said he strangled his mother and then recruited friends to help bury her body following an argument about his grades.

Assistant State Attorney Tammy Jacques said after the hearing that prosecutors are working on whether Ramos will be charged as an adult.

Porras and Ceglarek were placed on supervised house arrest.

Larry Turner knew the family for six years and lives two doors down.

The next morning, Ramos went to school and called police after he came home that afternoon to report that his mom was missing, the house had been ransacked and her van was still running in the driveway. Those teens are also facing criminal charges.

He also tried to stage his home to make police think his mother was abducted and finally he made a 911 call to set his plan in motion.

Suspect Gregory Ramos, 15, was one of them.

"They are local", Ali said. The Associated Press typically does not identify juveniles charged with crimes.

"The act that he did, he did knowing a murder had taken place", Jacques told the court.

At some point during conversations with investigators the teen confessed to carrying out the murder and staging the burglary with the two other teens.

WKMG reported that authorities sensed something was amiss and interviewed Ramos' two 17-year-old friends, Dylan Ceglarek and Brian Porras, who reportedly admitted to helping Ramos stage the burglary and bury Cleavenger's body. After the argument, the mother called the father who was in Seattle on a business trip. After they hung up, Cleavenger went to sleep.

The son entered her room about 12:30 a.m. Friday, investigators said. Photos of Ramos showed markings on his face which the Sheriff's Office believes are from his mother fighting back, detectives said. On Friday, Cleavenger was reported to have disappeared. There, he buried the body beneath a fire pit.
