Holding admits Arsenal defence more organised under Emery

Few would argue that Arsenal look revitalised under Unai Emery after 22 years under Arsène Wenger.

The club failed to finish in the top four for the first time under Wenger in his final two campaigns, a situation Emery believes was down to losing the "defensive structure".

"Nowadays it's very hard for a coach to stay 22 years", Emery said in an interview with Spanish sports daily Marca on Thursday.

In conference, Emery said that a number of players had recovered from injuries and trained, such as forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

"Before Wenger arrived, Arsenal celebrated the 1-0 wins and were based on defensive solidity", he said.

"We need more in some things, being different tactically, individually, in the spirit, in the mentality".

The last of Wenger's three Premier League titles came in 2003/04, claiming only FA Cup trophies and Community Shield titles in subsequent years. We had to stop it and start climbing.

After Bouremouth, Arsenal will travel to Ukraine to face Vorskla on Thursday before the North London derby just three days later.

He has ramped up his training over the global break, however, and Gunners head coach Unai Emery is hoping the 33-year-old can take part in an under-23 game against Derby County on Monday.

"Unai Emery is doing well, we are unbeaten in two months and are enjoying a very good run", he added.

Emery has made a series of fine signings during the summer and now the Gunners sit pretty on fifth spot in the Premier League table.

"We have a third objective however and that is that we want to garner feedback and create a connection with the fans".

"We had to rearrange the furniture, and not because of anything bad that happened previously, but to stimulate everyone again - to shake things up, sweep under the carpets, open the windows - in a positive way". We have had an terrible injury record with our defenders, and Emery has told us that we are still waiting for Monreal to return. "We want Arsenal to convey energy and hunger".
