The White House itself has already been decorated for the Christmas holiday, with wreaths adorning the building's facade, ruby red trees, and more traditional trees on the inside.

She said: "Also, sometimes you need to fight back ― I'm sorry".

But if Trump thought this year's decorations would escape ridicule, she's wrong. "Thank you to the many volunteers and staff who worked hard to decorate the halls of the People's House in Christmas cheer".

The first lady was speaking in a panel discussion at Liberty University, when she took the opportunity to address the social media pandemonium that unfolded after she tweeted a 57-second video of this year's extravagant holiday decorations.

"Talking about opioids and getting the message out, and what is the media... hung up on with the first lady now?"

Mrs. Trump shared the stage with CRTV host Eric Bolling, whose own son, Chase, tragically died of an accidental opioid overdose.

But this time around, she handled the flak with a grace that made her critics look small.

"Not really. we can do that maybe in the future when I'm a little less busy", she said. "He doesn't have social media yet; he's not interested in it", Trump said.

Trump's appearance at Liberty University was to share her "Be Best" initiative while encouraging the students to make a difference in the world in fighting against the opioid crisis by raising awareness and removing the stigma.

"I also believe you have the capacity to not think of this in terms of statistics, but to think of this as a human story and an opportunity to save lives", she said.

Her words were greeted with laughter, cheers and applause from the audience.
