George Bush Senior dies at 94

"Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro and I are saddened to announce that after 94 remarkable years, our dear Dad has died", his son, 43rd President George W. Bush, said in a state released by McGrath.

Bush presided over economic malaise at home, and infuriated his fellow Republicans during a budget battle with rival Democrats by famously breaking his vow: "Read my Lips: No new taxes".

Mr. Bush had been ailing for some time and in recent years used a wheelchair or motorized scooter.

He is the father of former President George W. Bush, who served two terms from 2001 through 2009. They were together for 73 years.

Former President George H.W. Bush has passed away at the age of 94. Reagan soon chose Bush as his running mate and vice presidential nominee.

Mrs Bush died in April 2018.

He ran for president again with Sen.

In late 1989, Bush sent United States troops to Panama to oust strongman Manuel Noriega.

His pronouncement soon proved prophetic, with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union occurring early in his presidency.

Bush faced a serious challenge when Iraqi President Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in 1990.

During his four years in the White House, Bush ordered a military operation in Panama to overthrow its drug-trafficking leader, Manuel Noriega.

He lost his bid for re-election to Bill Clinton in a campaign in which businessman H. Ross Perot took nearly 19 percent of the vote as an independent candidate.

At the time of his death, Bush was the American president to have lived the longest. Bush's representatives released a statement at the time, saying that he occasionally "patted women's rears in what he meant to be a good-natured manner".

His father, Prescott Bush, the son of an OH steel magnate, made his fortune as an investment banker and later served 10 years as a senator from CT.

"Some see leadership as high drama and the sound of trumpets calling, and sometimes it is that", Bush said during his inaugural address on January 20, 1989.

The campaign was over within weeks - one of the most tactically successful military operations in U.S. history.

Bush continued: "The new breeze blows, a page turns, the story unfolds".
