Sarri Showers Big Praise on Chelsea Star

It was speculated that the Frenchman's lack of goals was responsible for Sarri's decision to leave him on the bench, even when Alvaro Morata is not anyway better. "For us I think it's really very important to have two strikers in confidence", the Italian added.

The 31-year-old midfielder's current contract at Stamford Bridge is due to expire in the summer and that has inevitably led to speculation that he could be on his way out of the club in January.

"In the last match, the problem was the team, not one or two players", he said.

He never quite reached the goal scoring heights for Arsenal that he'd hit in France and at Chelsea he's only managed four league goals in 24 appearances but, even with the addition of a beard, he remains as good looking as ever.

The technique with which he scored his second goal of the night emphasized the fact that he's in form and he's ready to start more games.

While some pondered on how hard life at the Bridge has become for the 27-year-old, the prospect of Hudson-Odoi becoming the long-term successor to the Nigeria brings a little respite to Blues downside the Atlantic.

"I spoke with him for three days - I don't remember exactly - one month ago, or 45 days ago", said Sarri, who dined with Ranieri afterwards in the Chelsea training ground canteen.

Chelsea have confirmed their starting team and substitutes to play host to London rivals Fulham at Stamford Bridge in a Premier League clash this afternoon. "I am very happy with this because, in the last three matches, we had big problems to get into the match".

Though his goal may not be enough to see him start ahead of Morata and Giroud, he is definitely at the right path to becoming a great player for the Blues.
