Trump U-TURN as US President meets Putin on sidelines of G20 Summit

Last weekend, Russian Federation seized three Ukrainian naval vessels and their crews in the narrow strait that separates the Black Sea from the Sea of Azov. "I replied to his questions about the incident in the Black Sea", Putin was quoted as saying.

Russian Federation claimed the ships it seized violated its territorial waters, but the strait is considered shared under a 2003 agreement.

Trump announced last month that he was withdrawing the United States from the 31-year-old treaty, which eliminated an entire class of missiles and is considered a cornerstone of strategic stability between Moscow and Washington.

Putin said that Ukrainian Navy boats had illegally crossed into Russian waters last week and drew a diagram of the violation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Saturday he briefed his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump on the Ukraine crisis as he came under pressure over Moscow's robust foreign policy at the G20 Summit in Argentina.

Earlier today there had been suspicions Mr Trump threatened to cancel his meeting with Mr Putin because of developments in the special counsel's probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Putin spoke with reporters on the sidelines of a G20 summit in Buenos Aires. Thus, according to the Ukrainian side, Russian Federation has once again demonstrated its aggressive nature and complete disregard for the norms of worldwide law.

Speaking at a Ukrainian military event, President Petro Poroshenko said Russian Federation has deployed "more than 80,000 troops, 1,400 artillery and multiple rocket launch systems, 900 tanks, 2,300 armored combat vehicles, 500 aircraft and 300 helicopters" along their common border.

The martial law order included a ban on entry to Ukraine of all Russian males aged 16 to 60, a move Poroshenko said is created to prevent undercover Russian military units from infiltrating the country. 24 sailors were taken into custody.

Ukrainian officials have denied that the vessels were in Russian waters and they had the right to sail through the Kerch Strait.

In response to the seizure of the ships, Poroshenko convinced the Ukrainian parliament to implement martial law in ten border regions.
