Jake Gyllenhaal says hello to Instagram!

But hey, it's always nice to get casting confirmed, particularly when it's coming straight from the chiselled, rugged horse's mouth itself.

Jake Gyllenhaal has joined Instagram and used the site to reveal that he is starring as a villain in the next Spider-Man film. The post is accompanied by the caption: "I just realised I'm not playing Spider-Man". In the video, the actor is seen reading The Return Of The Man Called Mysterio! However, the actor and the studio behind the upcoming superhero film have been mum on the topic. Photos from the set snapped backed in September showed Gyllenhaal dressed in a very elaborate looking get-up (sadly sans fishbowl), and rumours that the iconic villain would be the one squaring up against Spidey in the upcoming sequel have been swirling for a while now. "That's what it feels like when you're working". It's now unclear which incarnation of Mysterio Gyllenhaal will be portraying.

Spider-Man creators, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, introduced Mysterio in the comics in 1964.

In May, it was reported that Gyllenhaal was in talks to play the role of Spider-Man's adversary in the Far from Home film. He is a special effects experts who uses his talents to commit crimes.

Tom Holland starred as the Marvel hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming and recently appeared in Avengers: Infinity War.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released in the United Kingdom on July 5, 2019.
