Storm in southeastern United States cancels flights to, from San Diego

The bulk of the outages are in North Carolina, where 244,807 customers are in the dark. North Carolina State Highway Patrol warned that even after streets are treated, they can freeze over again. The Eastern N.C. School for the Deaf also canceled transportation Sunday and classes for Monday.

Maryland State Police in the southern part of the state have activated a snow emergency plan. States of Carolina and Virginia are the ones getting affected this time.

Some parts of Northern Virginia, just south of the Capital Beltway, and parts of Southern Maryland, east of Interstate 95, received roughly two inches of snow starting late on Sunday afternoon.

A snowstorm in the Southeast has prompted the cancellation of a holiday train in northwest Tennessee.


Driving conditions will remain hazardous at least through Monday.

A winter storm has slammed the southern U.S. with snow and some deadly, icy conditions that have made it risky to get around. One driver said that some places was about a foot deep and that his tractor was not strong enough to push the snow.

"Be prepared to stay put for a few days when the storm rolls in and the roads become slick", Cooper said.

Here at home, the National Weather Service says the cold and dry pattern looks to continue through midweek.

More than 300,000 power outages have been reported as a winter storm makes its way across the Southeast.

The storm dumped up to 11 inches of snow in Richmond, VA and some areas of North Carolina saw as much as 18 inches.
