Google: The Year in Search 2018

As 2018 wraps up, Google is taking a look back at the most popular web searches of the year.

Google SA said this year's searches showed that South Africans had a keen interest in local celebrities‚ as well as news and events - while the most-asked questions list revealed an awareness of‚ and curiosity about‚ what was happening in the world. That honour went to the World Cup.

This why their Year in Search provides an invaluable perspective into global trends, changing social attitudes, but also silly online fads and our continuing fascination with celebrities.

Google today released its data on search trends in 2018.

Aside from the Indian Tamil-language action title, there were many Indian movies featured among the top 10 search queries, including Baaghi 2, Tiger Zinda Hai, and Dhadak.

By March, the movie became the highest-grossing superhero movie of all time in the US, and was the 5th top-trending keyword of 2018.


In terms of individuals, the most-searched names: Meghan Markle (again), Demi Lovato, Sylvester Stallone, Logan Paul, and Khloé Kardashian.
