3 arrested in death of California police officer, sheriff rips sanctuary laws

Christianson, who was at a meeting with Trump and slams California's law in a video posted by the White House in May, said the measure prohibited his department from sharing Perez Arriaga's gang ties, "other active warrants" and past DUI arrests with federal immigration authorities.

Singh is survived by his wife, Anamika, and their 5-month-old son.

In Kern County, Sheriff Don Youngblood said three others were arrested, also for allegedly helping Arriaga, who was taken into custody in Bakersfield, roughly 200 miles from Newman, Calif., the small city where Singh was killed while conducting a traffic stop, thinking the driver was driving under the influence.

Ronil Singh's death at a Sheriff's Department news conference as Gustavo Perez Arriaga, 32, whom the sheriff said entered the country illegally from Mexico and has been in this country for several years. He joined the Merced County sheriff's office as a reserve officer and worked as an animal control officer in Turlock before being hired by the Newman force in 2011.

Authorities said the officer pulled over the attacker as part of a drunken driving investigation around 1 a.m. the day after Christmas.

Newman police chief Randy Richardson explained in a news conference on December 27 that Singh had come to the United States with the intent of becoming a police officer.

Two other men, Adrian Virgen, 25, and Erik Razo Quiroz, 27, were arrested December 28 for accessory after a felony for trying to divert investigators, Christianson said, according to NBC News.

Richardson said Singh was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting and riding his jet ski.

"It's unfortunate, and I've said it's going to happen, and I hate that I'm right!" he concluded.

However, according to Congressional Candidate Ted Howze, he announced on Facebook that the fugitive wanted in connection with murder of Newman, CA Police Officer Ronil Singh has been arrested early this morning in Bakersfield.

"He came to America with one objective, and that was to serve this country", Richardson said.

The man suspected of shooting and killing a California police officer during a traffic stop early Wednesday morning has been arrested after a statewide manhunt, authorities confirmed on Friday.

Trump tweeted about Singh's killing Thursday, saying it was "time to get tough on Border Security".

Christianson says Perez Arriaga is from Mexico and was trying to cross back over the border before his arrest. Sheriff Christianson said Virgen is Arriaga's brother and that Quiroz was his coworker. He doesn't belong here.

"I think that what's being lost here is yes, he was a police officer and that's why all of you are packed in this room-because he was tragically taken from us".

"He was truly just a human being and an American patriot", said Christianson.
