Sweet, sweet sorrow: Police mourn after Krispy Kreme truck fire

Doughnut distress that struck the Lexington Police Department earlier this week will be remedied by Krispy Kreme.

Police in Kentucky found a humorous way to pay their respects to a fallen comrade: an empty Krispy Kreme truck that had caught fire.

He escaped unscathed and the fire brigade was able to extinguish the blaze, video of which was posted to Facebook by local news channel Lex 18. The truck, however, is expected to be a total loss.

As of Tuesday night, the post had been retweeted more than 16,000 times.

A host of police officers from other departments chimed in, saying things like "Condolences from Chicago" and "Hang in there, 2019 will get better".

The Colorado State Patrol offered to share their doughnuts, but advised the Lexington officers to "avoid the brownies". "We donut what else to say". "Your brothers and sisters in MA are here for you during these tough times".

Let's hope that these hardworking law enforcement officers get some more of their favorite sugary snack soon.

Despite the loss, Krispy Kreme assured the officers that sweeter times were on the horizon.
