Three key battles that could decide Manchester City vs. Liverpool

Three key battles that could decide Manchester City vs. Liverpool

Speaking ahead of Liverpool's win against Arsenal, Klopp said: "Milly is Milly, that means he is again ahead of schedule".

"Obviously [it boosted us]", the 27-year-old told Standard Sport when asked about Tottenham's result on Saturday.

Guardiola has preferred Danilo to Kyle Walker at right-back for Man City in recent games, but both are trumped in this team by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who continues to go from strength to strength for Liverpool.

Fabinho will need to be on his case from minute one because if his influence is felt on the game, it could prove costly for Liverpool.

"The reality is clear so we have seven points down so it will be the second game of the second leg [of the season], so there a lot of points to play for. They will be ready and we have to make sure we are ready, that's all".

"It is one of the most hard games you can play in the modern football world, away at City", Klopp said.

Finally, should City take the lead, they have no intention of sitting back and playing out the game.

Manchester City centre-back Vincent Kompany has challenged his team mates to "pull everything out of the locker" for Thursday's crucial game against Liverpool.

"They punish mistakes in the opponent's build-up-play like hardly any other team in the world does".

With the game nearly a must-win for City in some quarters, the Reds hold all the advantage going in to the tie.

As for Guardiola's praise for Liverpool, Klopp said: "I heard it".

When Manchester City and Liverpool last met in the Premier League, a fixture usually bulging with goals failed to live up to its billing as the most entertaining in English soccer. Liverpool is not only unbeaten and on a nine-match winning run, but is blowing away the competition as evidenced by its two wins since Christmas: 4-0 over Newcastle and 5-1 over Arsenal. It's the third of January, it's a very important game for both teams and I would use it as motivation for the other team'.

"Yesterday [was the] first time he trained with us", Klopp said.

"Only the situation a couple of weeks ago, we were a point behind and if you lose then it's four points".

"My only question of Liverpool would be how they play it". "That's the situation, so we will see what we do with that". In last year's league game at Anfield, he played an extra midfielder in Ilkay Gundogan instead of a winger, Raheem Sterling, and it left the team lopsided.
