Jets hire Adam Gase: Instant analysis of New York's new head coach

The New York Jets' hiring of Adam Gase as their next head coach apparently came with the seal of approval from the franchise quarterback.

Hired by the Dolphins before the 2015 season, Gase amassed a 23-25 record over three seasons.

Now he gets Darnold, a potential superstar quarterback for NY, and a front office that has a ton of salary cap space and should be enthused about throwing money at offensive pieces who work within Gase's system. My family's excited. We were eating dinner when I got the message (Jets informing McCarthy of their decision to roll with Gase), and they all started cheering.

McCarthy enjoyed majority success during his tenure as Packers head coach. Ryan went a playoff-less 8-8 his first year and didn't even make it through his second year in Buffalo before being fired with a game remaining in the 2016 season. A year off could really benefit the coach as he steps back from a pretty ugly divorce with the Packers, but more notably Aaron Rodgers. Fans seem to be upset but there is no flawless hire. In 2013, Manning set the National Football League record for touchdown passes in a season with 55, and any sway from Manning was going to hold weight, especially for a team with a now second-year start quarterback in Sam Darnold in need of further development.

McCarthy, 55, said Wednesday that he will sit out the 2019 season.
