Art Rooney open to trade for Antonio Brown

Art Rooney open to trade for Antonio Brown

Brown responded not so quietly with a picture of himself and Rooney with the caption, "Good Business #Boomin".

The Steelers likely will make a decision prior to the start of the league's year on March 13, when trades can start to occur.

Trading Brown comes at a significant cost. His cap hit next season is about $22 million, which would be Detroit's second highest after Stafford. Even if the Steelers do decide to trade him, he would still count over $21 million against their cap.

Still, another team must meet the Steelers' asking price for any theoretical trade, and it's no guarantee one will step up at the right return.

The 49ers have been in the market for a true No. 1 wide receiver since John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan took over. The Raiders also are stocked with draft-pick currency (three first-rounders) and need WR help.

The All-Pro receiver has unfollowed the organization on Twitter - as well as a number of other Steelers-associated media outlets - only ramping up the speculation around his future with the team. "Yes, I'm 31 and I'm still excited to play the game". Brown has been ruled out of the game due to injury.

The Steelers now have two months to figure it all out. Brown's current deal with the Steelers runs through 2021, with an average annual salary of $17 million. Once again, after dealing with the Le'Veon Bell contract situation for two years and finally moving on from him, the Steelers are embroiled in yet another conflict with a star skill-position player that might drag on.

This situation is only going to get worse before it gets better.

He already let outside linebackers coach Joey Porter and running backs coach James Saxon go, and offensive line coach Mike Munchak is a finalist for the Broncos head coaching job.
