New York Yankees Sign DJ LeMahieu, Is Machado Out?

He has met with team reps "multiple times" this offseason.

Though many Twitter sleuths tried to analyze the body language of managing partner John Middleton and general manager Matt Klentak after they returned to Philadelphia Saturday night, the organization's meeting with Harper in Las Vegas was apparently productive.

As for Manny Machado, whose market is reportedly down to the Phillies and White Sox, Nightengale says the White Sox are now favorites to sign Machado, something very few around the game expected with Philadelphia and the Yankees in the chase. But they do appear confident they will bag at least one of the prize free agents.

There has been a lot of talk about Manny Machado preferring to sign with the New York Yankees and potentially taking less money to do so, but that would require the Bronx Bombers making him an honest offer.

Manny Machado has been one of the most talked about players in the Major League Baseball this offseason and has had quite a few teams interested in signing him.

According to reports this morning out of New York City, the Yankees have signed LeMahieu to a two-year, $24 million deal.

For the Yankees to truly be out on Machado at this point, he'd have to have offers in hand from the White Sox and Phillies that he knows he would be comfortable accepting, and also he'd have to know that the Yankees definitely will not be approaching those offers. However, the Phillies have not made an official offer to Harper, the report said.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported Sunday, citing three sources, Philadelphia has "emerged as the clear-cut favorite" to sign the 26-year-old. Hahn said he tries to keep his "fan hat" on, recalling his days growing up on the North Shore, pre-internet, when he'd call into Sports Phone to get the latest updates on hot-stove rumors.

The Washington Nationals' pursuit of Bryce Harper has been a windy path this offseason, but it may be coming to an end soon.
